AMABIE OKIAGARI doll depicting a Japanese mythological marine creature with the body of a mermaid, the face of a bird, long hair and three legs, a symbol of protection against epidemics.

According to legend, it first appeared in 1846 in Japan, an Amabie-like being emerged from the sea and predicted good fishing for six years, but also warned that if any disease struck the people, they should show a image of the Amabie to ward off the epidemic.
