AMABIE lucky bell depicting a Japanese mythological sea creature with the body of a mermaid, the face of a bird, long hair and three legs, a symbol of protection against epidemics.
According to legend, she first appeared in 1846 in Japan, an Amabie-like being emerged from the sea and predicted good fishing for six years, but also warned that if a disease struck the people, they would have to show a image of Amabie to ward off the epidemic.
